Invasion of a beloved mountain, waterfall, source water, and forest
Given its proximity to Williamsport, ample parking, glorious scenery, and well-maintained trail, the Jacoby Falls hike is one of the most popular family outings in the Loyalsock State Forest.
Jacoby Mountain's much loved 3.4-mile loop hike leads to the spectacular 18-foot Jacoby waterfall. Fed by a multitude of underground springs and mountaintop wetlands, Jacoby Run cascades over an amphitheater-shaped rock formation on its journey to Wallis Run, a tributary of the nearby Loyalsock Creek.Invasion of a beloved mountain, waterfall, source water, and forest
Deep under the beautiful pines and hardwoods, vernal pools, and wildlife-rich forest that feeds this magnificent waterfall lie pockets of methane gas formed by millions-year-old rotting fossils.
Pennsylvania General Energy (PGE) has filed a 1,268-page application with DEP detailing the plans for what can only be called the destruction of a forest. The profit-hungry proposal includes access roads, well pads, equipment staging areas, and a pipeline just 600 feet from the waterfall.
Plans detail four miles of industrialization of the Loyalsock Forest stretching across Jacoby Mountain and north across neighboring Cove Mountain.
RDA recently partnered with Trout Unlimited and Keystone Trails Association, asking DEP to hold a public hearing on PGE’s request to begin construction of this massive project in the spring of 2026.
If permitted, industrial construction equipment would arrive at the same time the salamanders, trees, frogs, birds, bears, ferns, and the teeming abundance of life reawakens or returns to their home in the woods. We encourage you to read our letters to DEP.
DEP HAS SCHEDULED A VIRTUAL HEARING.
The remote hearing will be held on February 3 starting at 4:00 p.m.
