Climate Crisis Denial Vs. The Power of An Informed Citizenry

Climate Crisis Denial Vs. The Power of An Informed Citizenry

by Ralph Kisberg, RDA energy policy consultant

Technologies necessary for a reliable, sustainable energy economy exist now. Not all are yet scalable.  Financial, political, supply chain, affordability, and environmental obstacles are formidable. But what choice does humanity have other than to set the goal and make the effort?

This remains true even though it appears the federal government, as of January 20 this year, will once again largely ignore the climate crisis.
Nonetheless, RDA will continue to follow and report on the progress of brilliant people, innovative businesses, and climate-focused governments around the world as they strive toward crucially needed climate goals. We will continue to monitor how the climate crisis evolves as the 1.5°C global warming mark steams by much faster than anticipated.

It is puzzling how the new administration could imagine that its goal of increasing fossil fuel production could benefit American consumers and businesses in the long run. The cycle of over- and under-production may temporarily lower oil prices on the global commodity market, but it eventually backfires, leading to another round of steep price increases.

It is also puzzling how the policy of “unleashing LNG” (liquid natural gas) could possibly benefit Pennsylvania gas and electrical power consumers. We’ve seen this pattern before as prices rose due to extremely cold weather in Europe, Asia and much of the US in 2022.  Higher foreign demand for American LNG caused prices to increase dramatically for fossil gas consumers everywhere.

In our fight for climate and energy sanity, RDA will continue to advocate for nature-based decarbonization solutions. We will share with you the ideas and resources we believe are the most efficient, cost effective, and streamlined pathways to the future we all want to see. And we will continue to remind you that despite the decisions made by elected and appointed officials, grassroots power and personal efforts remain powerful and necessary tools. Please stand with us.

Happy New Year to All.
